Global Oceans Action Summit for Food Security and Blue Growth

The Global Ocean Action Summit for Food Security and Blue Growth, organized by the Government of the Netherlands and the World Bank, is meant to “seal major deals for worldwide action” addressing the threats to the health and productivity of oceans. The meeting aims to mobilize financial and technical support for attaining established goals under the Global Partnership for Oceans (GPO). It will also host the first official assembly of GPO partners, and will mark the implementation phase of the GPO. In addition, a report indicating priority areas and regions for action will be launched by the GPO Blue Ribbon Panel, an independent group of ocean experts. Attendance is by invitation only. The Summit was originally scheduled to take place in September 2013. The Summit will highlight the need to address the next frontier of successful integrated approaches that attract public-private partners, secure financing and catalyze good ocean governance while reconciling tensions and balancing priorities between growth and conservation, private sector interests and equitable benefits for communities and Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs) and Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction (ABNJ) policy frameworks.
