From Rio to Paris: Higher Education for Climate Change Action

This event will discuss the roles and responsibilities of higher education institutions in business and technological innovation related to climate change adaptation and mitigation. It will take stock of progress made in advancing sustainable development and climate change by higher education institutions since the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), including best practices and lessons learned, and encourage new or enhanced commitments, especially those related to academic and scientific inputs into the formulation of climate policies. The event is expected to develop a message and policy recommendations for presentation at the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The event is organized by the Higher Education Sustainability Initiative (HESI), a consortium of UN entities, including the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA), the UN University (UNU) and Global Compact.
