Identifying the economic, social, environmental and governance factors that support economic resilience-building in small States was the focus of a recent workshop in Malta.

Organized by the Commonwealth Secretariat and the University of Malta, the workshop on Building and Measuring the Economic Resilience of Small States took place from 7-9 March 2005 in Gozo, addressing one of the recommendations of the Mauritius SIDS International Meeting that took place in January 2005.
Among other things, participants examined measures to enable small States to manage their economic vulnerability, discussed a framework to operationalize such measures, and explored ways to develop a resilience index to support decision-making. A final statement will soon be available on the Commonwealth Secretariat website.
