December 2009: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) approved US$4.5 million funding for a joint global project by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) on “piloting health adaptation to climate change.”
The project aims to: enhance early warning; build capacity; pilot specific intervention measures; and share lessons learned on protecting health from a range of hazards associated with climate change. The project will involve health ministries and relevant national partners in Barbados, Bhutan, China, Fiji, Jordan, Kenya and Uzbekistan over the period 2010-2013. [WHO Press Release]
