UNIDO-ICHET sign Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) in New Delhi
13 March 2009: The UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has signed a memorandum of understanding with a consortium of partners to provide financial and technical support for the building and operation of a fleet of 15 hydrogen-fuelled three-wheel vehicles in New Delhi, India. The agreement was reached by UNIDO’s International Centre for Hydrogen Energy Technologies (ICHET), the UNIDO Regional Office for South Asia, and Indian partners, including: the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi; Mahindra and Mahindra; and Air Products.

The project, known as DELHY-3W, will be operated on a public-private partnership basis for two years. It is planned that the fleet of three-wheelers will be demonstrated at the Pragati Maidan complex in New Delhi, in collaboration with the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), and used to transport visitors from the metro station to the premises of the exhibition at ITPO. It is hoped that the fleet would continue its operation beyond DELHY-3W and that the project will support the establishment of hydrogen vehicles and refueling facilities across New Delhi and India.
