Unff1 July 2013: The UN Forum on Forests (UNFF) has released the report of its tenth session held on 4 February 2011, and from 8-19 April 2013. The report includes two resolutions for the attention of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC): the first on progress in the implementation of the non-legally binding agreement on all types of forests; and the second on emerging issues, the means of implementation and the UNFF trust fund.

The resolutions invite member States to take steps to recognize and reflect the value of forests, enhance the implementation of sustainable forest management (SFM), and strengthen links between forests and economic development. Regional and sub-regional processes as well as the Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF) are requested to support member States in these efforts.

The report also contains the conclusions of the ministerial segments of the session and notes statements made by the Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, Mr. Wu Hongbo, and the Co-chairs of the ministerial segment, Mario Ruales Carranza and Veysel Eroglu. The report also summarizes the meeting’s round table discussions on forests and economic development, and on the outcomes of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) and the post-2015 development agenda.

Finally, the report lists the agenda items for the eleventh meeting of the Forum (UNFF11) including a review of the international arrangement on forests, and means of implementation for SFM and forest law enforcement and governance.
