9 January 2013: The World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP) of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has launched a stakeholder consultation to determine the themes of the 6th and 7th editions of the World Water Development Report (WWDR).

The first four WWDRs, which were published every three years, aimed to cover the full spectrum of water issues.

In 2014, the WWDR will become an annual report focusing on a particular theme, the theme of WWDR 5 will be “water and energy.” The consultation, conducted at the request of UN-Water, will facilitate the identification of themes for WWDR 6 and 7, to be published in 2015 and 2016.
