8 October 2010: The Children and Youth programme of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) organized its annual Play for the Planet Initiative from 8-10 October 2010, with the aim of educating young people about environmental protection.
The Initiative, which took place in Mombasa, Kenya, included the planting of over 1,000 trees. In other East-African tree-planting news, UNEP announced activities by the Greenbelt movement in Kenya, as well as a UN backed tree-planting protect in east Sudan.
