23 March 2011: The UN-REDD Programme Policy Board has agreed, among other things, to approve US$4 million in funding for Ecuador’s National Programme for REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, as well as the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of carbon stocks).

During the Policy Board’s sixth meeting, held in Da Lat, Viet Nam, from 21-22 March 2011, Japan and the European Commission pledged US$3 million and US$14 million, respectively, while Norway pledged an additional US$40 million for 2011-2012. Partner countries also presented on recent activities supported by UN-REDD, and engaged in a panel discussion on sharing lessons learned to date. [UN-REDD Press Release]
