The UN Statistics Division has launched a platform to improve access to data on the global SDG indicators. The platform allows users to analyze data availability, review trends on each indicator globally and regionally, and compare trends for countries and indicators.

Launched on 23 September 2021, the Global SDG Indicators Data Platform allows users to search and download data on 210 of the 231 global SDG indicators, with a more user-friendly interface with the Global SDG Indicators Database. The Platform also provides access to SDG profiles for 132 countries. The country profiles show trends on each SDG.

Advanced tools provide programmatic access for users to build their own visualizations and apps. Advanced access options for the SDGs data include: SDG API, SDMX-SDGs, the Open SDG Data Hub, and a beta version of the SDMX Metadata Database.

Data availability for the SDG indicators is up for review at the next meeting of the UN’s Inter-Agency and Expert Group on the SDG Indicators (IAEG-SDGs). The IAEG-SDGs was established by the UN Statistical Commission to develop an indicator framework for monitoring the SDGs and their targets at the global level, and to support implementation of the framework.

The IAEG’s 12th meeting will convene virtually from 2-4 November 2021. The agenda also includes reviewing proposals on “refinements of the global SDG framework,” data disaggregation, and capacity building activities for SDGs.
