The Sendai Stakeholders Group brings together representatives of UN major groups and other stakeholders, with the aim of providing an ‘all-of-society’ approach to integrating DRR into the development agenda.
The group is based on the premise that sharing knowledge and innovation for reducing disaster risk occurs when diverse stakeholders are engaged in planning, implementing and monitoring the SDGs.
12 July 2018: The Sendai Stakeholders Group was established in the context of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) to reinforce the urgency and importance of disaster risk reduction (DRR) in ensuring accountability in delivering on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including through identifying and mitigating disaster risks.
The group, which was spotlighted during a 12 July 2018 side event on the sidelines of the HLPF, aims to promote inclusive and accessible development practices and to raise awareness on the importance of engaging all stakeholders in achieving resilient societies.
The side event titled, ‘Accelerating Local Resilience with All-of-society: Sendai Framework for DRR and the 2030 Agenda,’ enabled the sharing of experiences, good practices and trends in implementing the Sendai Framework and 2030 Agenda in a coherent and coordinated manner. The meeting highlighted the opportunities and challenges in engaging stakeholders in resilience building, and sought to increase understanding of the importance of risk-informed development in achieving the 2030 Agenda and the Sendai Framework.
The group will be critical to advancing SDG target 11.b.

In particular, the group will be critical to advancing SDG target 11.b on increasing the number of cities and human settlements adopting and implementing policies and plans towards inclusion, resource efficiency, climate change mitigation and adaptation, disaster resilience, and develop and implement holistic disaster risk management at all levels.
