1 June 2009: The recently-released report of the seventh meeting of the Liaison Group of the Biodiversity-related Conventions indicates that the group discussed, among other topics, options for enhanced cooperation with regard to work on cross-cutting issues such as climate change.

Participants agreed on the critical need to ensure consistency of the messages about cross-cutting issues that drive biodiversity loss, such as climate change, and to further strengthen collaboration with key partners in the respective fields. The collaboration between the Secretariats of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) on a resolution on wetlands and climate change was mentioned as a successful example.
The Liaison Group was hosted by the World Heritage Centre at UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) headquarters in Paris, France, on 9 April 2009. The Biodiversity Liaison Group consists of representatives from the secretariats of the CBD, the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS), the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES), the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGR), the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, and the World Heritage Convention, as well as of members of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) World Conservation Monitoring Centre.
