The Second Latin American Congress of National Parks and other Protected Areas convened from 30 September-6 October 2007, in Bariloche, Argentina.

Organized by a number of partners, including the UN Food and Argricultural Organization (FAO), the World Conservation Union (IUCN)-South America and the government of Argentina, the Congress consisted of symposia and workshops on: protected areas and biodiversity conservation; management of protected areas and capacity building; and governance, equity and quality of life. Its aim was to evaluate and plan the contribution of the region’s protected areas to biodiversity conservation, environmental services, sustainable development, poverty alleviation and regional integration among Latin American countries. The Congress outcomes included a strategy and policy proposals for the conservation of biodiversity and its sustainable use, an outline of future actions, mechanisms of cooperation and monitoring, and a Congress Declaration.
