fao-gef-gocOctober 2014: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), Global Environment Facility (GEF) and Global Ocean Forum (GOF) launched the Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction (ABNJ): Learn Newsletter. The newsletter will facilitate the sharing of information, knowledge and best practices on the management of ABNJ to encourage the advancement of integrated, ecosystem-based management policies and practices in ABNJ.

GEF, FAO and GOF launched the newsletter as part of their joint project on Strengthening Global Capacity to Effectively Manage ABNJ (ABNJ Capacity Project), which is part of the GEF/FAO Program on Global Sustainable Fisheries Management and Biodiversity Conservation in ABNJ (Common Oceans Program). The newsletter will share information on both programs.

Volume 1 of the newsletter includes information on the goals, activities and partners of the ABNJ Capacity Project, the ABNJ Tuna Project, the ABNJ Deep Seas Project and the ABNJ Ocean Partnerships Project.

The Global Ocean Forum Secretariat produced the newsletter in cooperation with GEF’s IW: LEARN program, which amalgamates lessons learned from the GEF International Waters programs. [ABNJ: LEARN News Volume 1, Number 1, September 2014]
