The UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), at its meeting on 4-5 October 2007, deferred adoption of the report of the seventh session of the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF 7), after having already deferred the matter from its July 2007 session, to allow the UN Secretariat more time to accurately reflect changes made to the Program and Budget Implications.

The Council did adopt two decisions, establishing two-year terms for UNFF Bureau members and setting the dates for the eighth session of the Forum (20 April to 1 May 2009). The Council is expected to reconvene and adopt the report in the coming weeks.
In other UNFF news, UNFF 8 Bureau members, at a 6 September 2007 meeting, selected Boen Purnama (Indonesia) to act as the Chair of the Bureau. UNFF 8 will formally elect its Chair on its opening day, in April 2009.
