Doha Climate Conference to be “PaperSmart”
story highlights

The 18th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 18) to the UNFCCC will be PaperSmart to reduce dependency on paper and increase efficiency.

This decision is based on the savings reported during the Bonn Climate Change Conference, which achieved paper use reductions of 50% compared to the same event in the previous year.

6 November 2012: The UN has announced that the 18th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 18) to the UNFCCC in Doha, Qatar, to be held from 26 November-7 December 2012, will be “PaperSmart” by adopting a range of tools to reduce dependency on paper and increase efficiency.

This decision is based on the savings reported during the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) held in June 2012, through the Integrated Sustainable PaperSmart initiative.

PaperSmart is an initiative born out of the Integrated Sustainable PaperSmart Services (ISPS) Secretariat’s commitment to enhance the environmental sustainability of its operations, including making conferences and meetings as sustainable as possible. It was originated in line with the UN Secretary-General’s long-term vision to promote and sustain innovation across the UN Secretariat, increasing effectiveness, accountability, transparency and efficiency.
