CGIAR’s System-wide Genetic Resources Programme Calls for Contributions to Crop Genebank Knowlege Base
story highlights

The CGKB addresses nine common crops in detail and specific regeneration guidelines for 22 crops, based on the compilation of genebank experts and peer review.

July 2011: The Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) has released an online resource, the Crop Genebank Knowledge Base (CGKB), for genebank managers and conservationists to provide an access point for crop-specific knowledge, practices for germplasm management, and a collection of publications and training materials.

The CGKB is part of the CGIAR System-wide Genetic Resource Programme (SGRP). The CGKB currently addresses nine common crops in detail and specific regeneration guidelines for 22 crops, based on compilation of genebank experts and peer review. The CGKB provides decision support material, including performance indicators, policies and legal instruments, etc., and has been used as the basis for a training in a genebank management course. The SGRP website offers interactive tools and welcomes new contributions and participation. The site was put together by a consortium of eleven CGIAR institutions.
