19 August 2010: At the 17th Ordinary Session of the Council of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation for North America (CEC), environmental ministers of Canada, the US and Mexico discussed a proposed 2010-2015 Strategic Plan, to guide CEC’s work according to three priority issues for the region, including climate change and low-carbon economy.

At the conclusion of the session, the environmental ministers issued a joint ministerial statement, expressing their intent to collaborate on improving the comparability of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data gathering, methodologies and inventories. Ministers also state that they will build stronger networks of experts and systems to share climate change information, with a view to ultimately supporting GHG reductions in North America by supplying information and tools that can be used in selecting and carrying out focused mitigation and adaptation projects. The meeting was held at the offices of the Environment and Natural Resource Secretariat (SEMARNAT) in Mexico City, Mexico. [Mexico Press Release] [Ministerial Statement]
