4 July 2011: The 11th issue of the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre’s (CCCCC) Climate Change News Update, which compiles international and regional climate change-related news, highlights the World Bank’s US$47.12 million Regional Disaster Vulnerability Reduction Projects, which aims to help Grenada and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to climate-proof their buildings and increase their public institutions’ capacity to assess natural risks.

The issue also reports on a World Bank project under which the Bank will provide a credit of US$10 million to finance the University of Guyana Science and Technology Support Project. It reports that an estimated 6,300 students and faculty will benefit from the Science and Technology Support Project, which aims to strengthen science and technology tertiary education in order to advance Guyana’s Low Carbon Development Strategy.

The issue also features articles on: the accreditation of national and regional implementing entities by the Adaptation Fund Board; the outcomes of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) Subregional Preparatory Meeting for the Caribbean, which convened in Georgetown, Guyana, on 20 June 2011; and highlights from the June issue of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and EU newsletter on the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Multilateral Environment Agreements (MEAs) project, which focused on climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction (DRR) in small island developing States (SIDS).
