story highlights

At UNFF 10, stakeholders from the major groups will be invited to discuss forests and economic development.

15 January 2013: The UN Forum on Forests (UNFF) produced a Note by the Secretariat on the multi-stakeholder dialogue to be held at its tenth session (UNFF 10), which will run from 8-19 April 2013, in Istanbul, Turkey. The note reports on actions taken since UNFF 9 and presents suggestions on enhancing the effectiveness of the upcoming multi-stakeholder dialogue.

Inter-sessionally, four stakeholder workshops were organized by the UNFFF Secretariat on facilitating finance for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and low forest cover countries. Furthermore, stakeholder representatives participated in workshops on forests and the green economy and forest finance.

At UNFF 10, stakeholders from the major groups (children and youth; NGOs; indigenous peoples; scientific and technical communities; women; farmers and small forest landowners; and forest workers and major trade unions) will be invited to discuss forests and economic development. Discourse will be based on a joint discussion paper and will include issues related to sustainable forest management, financing, the implementation of the non-legally binding instrument on all types of forests and the achievement of the four global objectives on forests.
