7 September 2011: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), in partnership with the UNFCCC Secretariat and the Government of Nepal, organized a workshop titled “Enhancing the Regional Distribution of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Projects in Asia and the Pacific.”

The workshop, which was held from 6-7 September 2011, in Kathmandu, Nepal, was the second of a series that aims to help promote a more equitable distribution of CDM projects in the Asia and the Pacific region. The workshop series focuses on helping to increase the capacity of, and identify opportunities for, new projects in countries hosting fewer than ten registered CDM projects.

The workshop was organized around five main sessions, which addressed the following issues: providing an overview of, and progress on, the development of standardized baselines; presenting pilot cases on standardized baselines per project type; addressing challenges in CDM project development and management; identifying CDM sectoral and regional opportunities; and identifying reasons for the lower uptake of the CDM in least developed countries (LDCs). A pre-workshop session held on 6 September offered one-on-one consultations between potential project developers and the ADB team of experts to discuss CDM opportunities, financing needs and options.
