ADB-ICRAF8 October 2014: The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a 10 million Euro investment in agroforestry through the Moringa Private Equity Fund. The fund will be used to support projects that combine tree plantations with agricultural production in sub-Saharan Africa.

The fund will provide smallholders with access to long-term financing and technical assistance to help them diversify their livelihoods and increase their income. The fund is also expected to increase carbon sequestration and help countries meet their climate change mitigation targets. Emphasis will be placed on projects that can be scaled up and replicated in line with the AfDB Ten-Year Strategy (2013-2022), which focuses on green growth, and the Bank’s Climate Change Action Plan, which focuses on reducing the continent’s vulnerability to climate change.

La Compagnie Benjamin de Rothschild (CBR) and the French Office National des Forêts International (ONFI) sponsor the fund. [AfDB Press Release] [ICRAF Press Release]
