Workshop on Inclusive Infrastructure

A workshop organized by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS) will bring together a wide range of key stakeholders from across civil society and government to discuss ways to ensure inclusive infrastructure for sustainable development.

The event will seek to identify pathways for countries to achieve a just and more sustainable future for all by: avoiding investments that lock-in inequitable infrastructure development trends; ensuring that infrastructure investments generate positive social outcomes that help to create more inclusive growth, benefit vulnerable groups, reduce inequalities, leave no one behind and respect human rights; and avoiding investments in carbon-intensive and resource-inefficient infrastructure.

The workshop’s outcomes will inform the development of a report on inclusive infrastructure and a Sustainable Infrastructure Partnership (SIP) guidance. The SIP works with a broad range of stakeholders to provide knowledge, facilitate international collaboration and support capacity building at the country level to foster systems-level approaches which more fully exploit the complex interlinkages between infrastructure and the SDGs.
