The Virtual Consultation with Civil Society and Major Groups and Other Stakeholders (MGoS) on the Summit of the Future will convene on 13 December. The consultation aims to give MGoS and civil society representatives the opportunity to share their views and expectations for the Summit of the Future and to offer concrete suggestions on the zero draft of the Summit’s outcome document, ‘The Pact for the Future’.

The Summit for the Future will convene in September 2024. The high-level event will bring together UN Member States, UN agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), civil society organizations (CSOs), academic institutions, the private sector, and youth under the theme, ‘Summit of the Future: Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow’. Originally proposed by UN Secretary-General António Guterres in his ‘Our Common Agenda’ report, the Summit aims to forge a new global consensus on what our future should look like, and what we can do today to secure it. 

UN General Assembly (UNGA) President Dennis Francis announced the re-appointment of the co-facilitators for the Summit of the Future and invited them to work in a coordinated manner to ensure that all relevant stakeholders participate and engage meaningfully in the consultations on the process. Resolution 76/307 and Decision 77/568 set the mandate for the co-facilitators to “facilitate open, transparent, and inclusive intergovernmental consultations on the preparatory process” for the Summit. 

Through the virtual consultation, the co-facilitators invite MGoS and civil society representatives to reflect on the scope of the Summit and to discuss modalities for the active engagement and participation of MGoS and civil society throughout the preparation for the Summit. MGoS and civil society representatives are also welcome to provide written input for the preparation of the zero draft via the Summit website.
