The Virtual Consultation with Civil Society and Major Groups and Other Stakeholders (MGoS) on the Summit of the Future will convene on 21 February. The consultation aims to give MGoS and civil society representatives an opportunity to share feedback on the zero draft of the Summit’s outcome document, the Pact for the Future.

The Summit for the Future will convene in September 2024. The high-level event will bring together UN Member States, UN agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), civil society organizations (CSOs), academic institutions, the private sector, and youth under the theme, ‘Summit of the Future: Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow’. Originally proposed by UN Secretary-General António Guterres in his ‘Our Common Agenda’ report, the Summit aims to forge a new global consensus on what our future should look like, and what we can do today to secure it. 

UN General Assembly (UNGA) President Dennis Francis announced the re-appointment of the Permanent Represenatiaves of Germany and Namibia as co-facilitators for the Summit of the Future and invited them to work in a coordinated manner to ensure that all relevant stakeholders participate and engage meaningfully in the consultations on the process. Resolution 76/307 and decision 77/568 set the mandate for the co-facilitators to “facilitate open, transparent, and inclusive intergovernmental consultations on the preparatory process” for the Summit. 

The February consultation follows a virtual consultation in December 2023 that offered an opportunity for MGoS and civil society representatives to share their views and expectations for the Summit of the Future. In addition, UNGA received nearly 500 written inputs. The co-facilitators invite MGoS and civil society representatives to submit written input to the zero draft by 12 February via the Summit website.
