The Second Committee of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) will discuss agenda item 19 (sustainable development), including: implementation of Agenda 21, the Programme for the Further Implementation of Agenda 21 and the outcomes of the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) and of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD); follow-up to and implementation of the Small Islands Developing States (SIDS) Accelerated Modalities of Action (SAMOA) Pathway and the Mauritius Strategy for the Further Implementation of the Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of SIDS; disaster risk reduction (DRR); protection of the global climate for present and future generations; implementation of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD); Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD); report of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA); harmony with nature; promotion of new and renewable sources of energy; and sustainable mountain development.
