UNGA Multi-stakeholder Hearing for High-level Meeting on UHC

An interactive, multi-stakeholder hearing on universal health coverage (UHC) will convene on 29 April, in preparation for the UN General Assembly's (UNGA) High-level Meeting on UHC. The High-level meeting will take place on 23 September 2019.

The hearing is called for in the UNGA resolution on modalities for the high-level meeting, as part of its preparatory process (73/131). The UNGA President is requested to organize the hearing with the support of the World Health Organization (WHO) and other relevant partners.

The Assembly calls for the hearing to have the “active participation” of: appropriate senior-level representatives of UN Member States; UNGA observers; parliamentarians; representatives of local government; relevant UN entities; NGOs in consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC); invited civil society organizations; philanthropic foundations; academia; medical associations; the private sector and broader communities. The hearing should ensure “the participation and voices of women, children, youth and indigenous leadership.”

The President is requested to prepare a summary of the hearing prior to the high-level meeting.

The permanent representatives of Hungary and Thailand are leading consultations on the political declaration to be adopted at the high-level meeting.

The programme for the hearing is available here (as of 26 April).
