9-11 May 2024 Nairobi, Kenya
UN Civil Society Conference

The UN Civil Society Conference will focus on the theme, the ‘Summit of the Future’. The Conference outcomes will serve as a contribution for Member States as they work towards the Pact for the Future.

The Summit for the Future, which will convene in September 2024, will adopt ‘A Pact for the Future’ – a concise, action-oriented outcome document, to be agreed in advance by consensus through intergovernmental negotiations. Originally proposed by UN Secretary-General António Guterres in his ‘Our Common Agenda’ report, the Summit aims to forge a new global consensus on what our future should look like and what we can do today to secure it.

In advance of the Summit, the co-facilitators for the Summit of the Future will engage stakeholders in consultations on the Pact for the Future and to facilitate open, transparent, and inclusive intergovernmental consultations on the Summit’s preparatory process. A Virtual Consultation with Civil Society and Major Groups and Other Stakeholders convened in December 2023.

The UN Department of Global Communications convenes a Civil Society Conference annually on a different UN topic of interest related to the work of civil society and NGOs. The Conference offers an opportunity for civil society organizations to put a global perspective on a specific issue and for participants to share best practices at the international level.
