The twelfth meeting of the Open-ended Working Group (OEWG-12) of the Basel Convention is expected to take place virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was originally scheduled to take place from 22-25 June 2020, in Geneva, Switzerland.

Among other things, OEWG-12 is scheduled to consider matters related to its work programme for the biennium 2020–2021: strategic issues; scientific and technical matters; legal, governance and enforcement matters; and international cooperation and coordination. It will also consider its draft work programme for the biennium 2022-2023, which the fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention (BC COP-15) is expected to adopt.
