18-21 June 2024 Kigali, Rwanda
Third UN Conference on LLDCs

The Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) will explore innovative solutions to challenges faced by LLDCs and build meaningful, strategic partnerships to unlock the potential of LLDCs. The Conference will convene under the theme, ‘Driving Partnerships for Progress’.

LLDCs face major constraints to meaningfully benefit from globalization because of their geographic remoteness and lack of direct access to major global markets. In recognition of this context, the event will consider how to address the unique situation of LLDCs within this context, with the broader aim of accelerating their socioeconomic growth and progress towards the SDGs.

The Second UN Conference on LLDCs adopted a Programme of Action for LLDCs for the Decade 2014-2024 that holistically addresses LLDCs’ special development needs and challenges and focuses on six priorities: transit policy issues; infrastructure development and maintenance, including on transport, energy, and information and communications technology (ICT); international trade and trade facilitation; regional integration and cooperation; structural economic transformation; and means of implementation.

In advance of the Third Conference, the UN General Assembly (UNGA) and the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) are convening a thematic event to provide input into the Conference.
