Sixth Local and Regional Governments Forum on the 2030 Agenda

The High-Level Local and Regional Governments Forum (LRGF) is a special event to be held on the sidelines of the 2023 UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF). The event will bring together local and regional governments, representatives from the UN, and other stakeholders to illustrate the interconnected importance of SDG 11 (sustainable cities and communities) to the 2030 Agenda and to highlight how local and regional governments localize the SDGs through high-impact localization policies that showcase impact and hope. The event will reflect on specific localization needs that could contribute to ensuring SDG implementation.

The Forum will focus on the five SDGs under review in the 2023 HLPF – SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation), SDG 7 (affordable and clean energy), SDG 9 (industry, innovation and infrastructure), SDG 11, and SDG 17 (partnerships for the Goals). The event will also showcase the role of Voluntary Local Reviews (VLRs) and Voluntary Subnational Reviews (VSRs) in supporting policy transformation towards SDG achievement and their connection with Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs).

The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) is convening several high-profile special events to highlight the impact of key sectors of society in driving SDG implementation, including this one on the role of local and regional governments.
