Second Global Conference on Strengthening Synergies between the Paris Agreement and 2030 Agenda [Virtual]

The Global Consultations on Harnessing Climate and SDG Synergies for a Better and Stronger Recovery from Covid-19 will take the place of the originally scheduled second Global Conference on Strengthening Synergies between the Paris Agreement and 2030 Agenda.

The UNDESA and UNFCCC Secretariats, in partnership with the European Union, had originally planned to convene a second Global Conference on Strengthening Synergies between the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in April 2020 in Geneva, Switzerland. However, on 6 March, the UNFCCC Executive Secretary announced that, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the UNFCCC secretariat would not hold physical meetings between 6 March and end of April.

In place of the in-person event, three online sessions in May and June will seek to advance the application of synergies in practice by illustrating the potential of synergistic approaches to recover better and faster from COVID-19 and accelerate enhanced climate action and transitions to sustainable development.

The three sessions are as follows:

Registration for the 28 May event is required by 25 May.

The discussions will seek to feed into the July 2020 session of the UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development and the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP 26), which will take place in 2021.

The first Climate and SDGs Synergy Conference took place from 1-3 April 2019, in Copenhagen, Denmark. The SDG Knowledge Hub summary of that event is here
