The SEA of Solutions (SoS) 2024 partnerships event, ‘Delivering Actions to End Plastic Pollution,’ aims to facilitate collaboration among solution seekers and providers to catalyze actions and innovations towards circularity in the plastic value chain. SoS focuses on solving plastic pollution at source.
The SEA circular, an initiative of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Coordinating Body on the Seas of East Asia (COBSEA), with support from the Government of Sweden, is organizing the SoS event. Since its launch in 2019, SoS has served as a platform for sharing best practices, fostering collaboration, and exploring solutions to plastic pollution.
The event is taking place during a year where the international community is negotiating an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, with the aim of concluding an agreement by the end of 2024. Within this context, SoS will facilitate knowledge exchange and build partnerships in the intersessional period ahead of the fifth meeting of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) to develop an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, including in the marine environment (Plastic Pollution INC-5).
SoS 2024 will focus on the following thematic areas: circularity in the plastic value chain; community engagement for behavior change; policy and regulatory measures; finance mechanisms; science; and evidence base for action.
