Science Day 2024 is one of a series of high-profile special events taking place on the sidelines of the 2024 UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF). Themed, ‘Driving Science-based Action on the SDGs,’ the event will bring together HLPF country delegations, the scientific community, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and other key stakeholders to discuss the role of science in SDG acceleration.

The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) is convening several high-profile special events to highlight the impact of key sectors of society in driving SDG implementation, including this one on the role of science. DESA will organize the Day with the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), the UN Development Progamme (UNDP), the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), and the International Science Council (ISC).

The event will highlight the need for including scientific evidence in the decision making around the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Participants will discuss collaboration around scientific discoveries, methodologies, and tools to support integrated, evidence-based policy actions. The event will also inform the 2024 Summit of the Future.
