Regional Technical Expert Meeting on Circular Economy and Waste-to-Energy

This meeting will focus on various solutions aimed at achieving a shift towards circular economy and the associated “triple win” – economic, environmental and employment. Circular economy solutions contribute to a number of SDGs, including SDG 7 (affordable and clean energy) by helping meet the overall energy needs and SDG 13 (climate action) by enabling greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions. They also advance SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth), SDG 9 (industry, innovation and infrastructure) and SDG 12 (responsible consumption and production) by creating job opportunities and closed loops in industries and industrial symbiosis, and recovering energy/material from waste.

The meeting is organized by the UNFCCC Secretariat, with the Technology Executive Committee (TEC), the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN), and the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). It will be held in conjunction with the Latin American and Caribbean Climate Week 2019.
