The first session of the Open Ended Working Group (OEWG) on a Science-Policy Panel to Contribute Further to the Sound Management of Chemicals and Waste and to Prevent Pollution will take place in October 2022 in a hybrid format.
The session is taking place pursuant to resolution 5/8 of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA) titled, ‘Science-Policy Panel to Contribute Further to the Sound Management of Chemicals and Waste and to Prevent Pollution,’ which decided that a science-policy panel should be established to contribute further to the sound management of chemicals and waste and to prevent pollution. The resolution decided to convene, subject to the availability of resources, an ad hoc open-ended working group to prepare proposals for the science-policy panel. The Open Ended Working Group (OEWG) will begin work in 2022, with the ambition of completing it by the end of 2024.
