Ocean and Climate Dialogue: East Asian Seas’ Response to the Global Climate Change Challenge

The ‘Ocean and Climate Dialogue: East Asian Seas’ Response to the Global Climate Change Challenge’ aims to examine how the East Asia region is integrating and implementing ocean-based adaptation solutions, including blue carbon initiatives, as part of national development plans and policies, particularly National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

The Dialogue, which is being organized by Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA) Resource Facility, will take place during World Ocean Day on 8 June 2022. It aims to: deepen understanding of the linkages between the ocean and climate change, and how ocean-related issues and solutions are considered in climate change negotiations; and mobilize investments from the private sector and regional partnerships to mitigate risk and enhance resilience.

The results of the discussion will help shape the ongoing consultations on the development of the Sustainable Development Strategy for the Seas of East Asia (SDS-SEA) Implementation Plan 2023-2027.
