The Ninth session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (Water Convention) will review progress in implementing the Water Convention and transboundary water cooperation more broadly, notably by launching the second report on the implementation of the Water Convention, and by discussing the outcomes of the second reporting exercise on SDG indicator 6.5.2.
Organized by the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in cooperation with the Government of Estonia, the meeting consider different aspects of transboundary water cooperation that have been addressed in the Convention’s programme of work for 2019-2021. The session will also feature a high-level segment focusing on water and peace. In addition, the meeting will feature the launch of five new publications to support transboundary water cooperation, and also adopt the Convention’s programme of work for 2022-2024.
The meeting will be held in hybrid format, with both virtual and in-person participation.
