Ninth International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development

The Ninth International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development seeks to provide policymakers and experts from various parts of the energy sector with an opportunity to reflect on the implications of the fast-paced energy transition, review the activities to date and make further progress towards meeting the SDGs. It will follow up on the recommendations from the Eighth International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development in June 2017 and the 2018 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF).

The forum will comprise an opening ministerial session, plenary sessions and parallel workshops under four main tracks: energy transition and decarbonization; robust systems and infrastructure; matchmaking and investor confidence; and “hot topics” and “deep dives.” It will also include the annual sessions of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Group of Experts on Energy Efficiency and Group of Experts on Renewable Energy.

The forum is co-organized by the Government of Ukraine and the five UN Regional Commissions, in partnership with the UN Development Programme (UNDP), UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), UN Environment Programme (UNEP, or UN Environment), the World Bank, International Energy Agency (IEA), International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Global Environment Facility (GEF), Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and other stakeolders.
