Multi-stakeholder Expert Workshop on Advancing Chemicals and Waste Management in Economic Industry Sectors

The Inter-Organization Programme for the Sound management of Chemicals (IOMC) will convene a Multi-stakeholder Expert Workshop on Advancing Chemicals and Waste Management in Economic Industry Sectors. The workshop will discuss draft guiding principles for strategy development throughout supply and value chains in preparation for the Fifth International Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM5) in September 2023. The workshop will also explore elements and activities of a possible global implementation programme.

In January 2023, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the IOMC held a workshop on ‘Advancing Chemicals and Waste Management in Chemical Intensive Economic Sectors and Industries,’ with the aim of initiating work under a future global instrument on chemicals and waste management that is expected to be adopted at ICCM5. The January workshop recommended a follow-up multi-stakeholder expert workshop to further discuss guiding principles for industry strategy development in advance of ICCM 5.

The workshop will bring together 50-60 expert and stakeholder participants, taking into account balanced participation from governments, sectors and industries, workers groups, and civil society.
