Meeting of the Praia Group on Governance Statistics

The Praia Group on Governance Statistics was formally established by the UN Statistical Commission in March 2015 (UNSC 46). The overall objective of the Group is to encourage countries to produce governance statistics based on sound and documented methodologies. The Group is developing a handbook on governance statistics for national statistical offices (NSOs), which will cover the conceptualization, measurement methodology and dissemination of governance statistics. The first meeting took place in Praia City, Cabo Verde, in June 2015, where members prepared a road map for 2016-2020. In March 2016, UNSC 47 adopted the report of the Group (http://unstats.un.org/unsd/statcom/47th-session/documents/2016-16-Praia-group-on-governance-statistics-E.pdf), welcomed and supported the proposed road map and actions towards developing the handbook; and requested the Group to report to UNSC 49, in 2018. The Commission also welcomed the Group's support for developing indicators for SDG 16.
