International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples 2023

The International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples takes place annually on 9 August to celebrate Indigenous Peoples and their knowledge. In 2023, the theme will focus on, ‘Indigenous Youth as Agents of Change for Self-determination’.

The UN General Assembly (UNGA) decided, in its resolution 49/214, to observe the International Day of the World’s Indigenous People annually, on 9 August. The date represents the first meeting, in 1982, of the UN Working Group on Indigenous Populations.
