The UN General Assembly (UNGA) designated 13 October as the International Day for Disaster Reduction to promote a global culture of disaster reduction, including disaster prevention, mitigation, and preparedness.

For 25 years, the Day has raised awareness and celebrated how people and communities around the world have reduced their exposure to disasters and the risks they face.
