The Higher Education Sustainability Initiative (HESI) is a partnership between the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs, the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the UN Global Compact’s Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) initiative, UN University (UNU), UN-HABITAT and the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). HESI provides higher education institutions with a unique interface between higher education, science and policy making.

HESI 2018 is one of four special events that will take place during the 2018 session of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF 2018). The other events are: the Partnership Exchange, the SDG Business Forum and the Local Authorities meeting.
