Global Expert Meeting on Agriculture and Agro-industries Development Towards Sustainable and Resilient Food Systems

This meeting is organized in preparation for the UN Economic and Social Council's (ECOSOC) Special Meeting on Innovations in Infrastructure Development and Promoting Sustainable Industrialization (SDG 9), in May 2017. The Expert Meeting aims to identify potential pathways, incentives and initiatives to realizing the SDGs through agriculture and agro-industry, to be presented as recommendations to ECOSOC and Member States. A prior preparatory meeting convened in Dakar, Senegal, on 26 March 2017, on the topic of 'Innovation for Infrastructure Development and Sustainable Industrialization'. Following his participation at that meeting, UN General Assembly (UNGA) President Peter Thomson reported that a clear message emerged regarding the need to look beyond traditional means of implementation, to more innovative ways of partnering.
