Global Conference on Land-Ocean Connections: Towards Greener Coastal Economies

The Global Conference on Land-Oceans Connections (GLOC) is being hosted by the Government of the Philippines and is being organized by UNEP. The Conference will immediately precede the Third Intergovernmental Review Meeting (IGR-3) on the implementation of the Global Programme of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land-based Activities (GPA), and will seek to ensure that a contribution from the linked marine and freshwater communities is feed into the Rio+20 process. GLOC will seek to review policy and implementation frameworks addressing key marine and coastal issues and help ensure those frameworks are: contributing effectively to the development of strengthened and resilient marine and coastal ecosystems serving coastal and linked watershed communities, and meeting the new environmental resource management issues, which the international community is facing. This conference also will include the launch of a new UNEP report on the “Green Economy in a Blue World”.
