The GLF Nairobi 2023 Hybrid Conference: A New Vision for Earth will explore local solutions to the climate and biodiversity crises. The two-day event aims to pave a path to a fairer world ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 28) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) in December.
The event will bring together scientists, Indigenous leaders, the private sector, women, youth, and other stakeholders. Day one will address sovereign solutions for Africa with a focus on how the continent can create a prosperous and sustainable future. Day two will focus on climate. Thematic areas include: rural development and green jobs; women in landscapes; youth; environmental justice and rights; sustainable finance; and locally led landscape solutions.
The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and the World Agroforestry Center (ICRAF) lead the Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) in collaboration with its co-funders, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Bank. The GLF is a knowledge-led platform on integrated land use, dedicated to achieving the SDGs and the Paris Agreement on climate change. The Forum considers five themes: food and livelihoods; landscape restoration; rights; finance; and measuring progress.
The German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety, and Consumer Protection and Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the Government of Luxembourg, the International Climate Initiative (IKI), Food, Land Use and Restoration Impact Program (FOLUR), and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) are supporting the event.
