Fourth Meeting of the Negotiating Committee on the Regional Agreement on Principle 10 of the Rio Declaration in Latin America and the Caribbean

The Fourth Meeting of the Negotiating Committee on the Regional Agreement on Access to Information, Public Participation and Justice in Environmental Matters (Principle 10 of the Rio Declaration) in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) will continue negotiating the substantive aspects of the regional agreement based on the third version of the text, which integrates countries' proposals and was compiled by the Committee's Presiding Officers, following agreement to do so during the third negotiating meeting held in Montevideo, Uruguay, from April 5-8, 2016. The meeting is being organized by the Government of the Dominican Republic and the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), which holds the technical secretariat of the negotiating process for the regional agreement. Negotiations are expected to conclude by December 2016. Principle 10 of the Rio Declaration aims to ensure that everyone has access to information, participates in decision making and can access justice in environmental matters, and the right to a healthy and sustainable environment for present and future generations.
