Fourth Meeting of the Global Commission on the Geopolitics of Energy Transformation

At its fourth meeting, the Global Commission on the Geopolitics of Energy Transformation will review its draft report on the geopolitical implications of the expected energy transformation and the large scale deployment of renewable energies.

Launched by the Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in January 2018, the Commission is composed of senior and experienced individuals drawn from a range of geographical and professional backgrounds. Its mandate is to: review how energy transformation may change national and global politics; develop a knowledge framework on the geopolitical challenges and opportunities associated with energy transformation; develop conclusions for further discussion; and develop an action framework laying out how countries can thrive in the new energy economy under the Paris Agreement on climate change and the SDGs. A summary of the first meeting is here.

The Commission is expected to publish its final report in January 2019 during the IRENA Assembly.
