First Informal Thematic Session for Global Compact on Migration

The first phase of the preparatory process for the global compact for safe, orderly and regular migration will include a series of six informal thematic sessions, organized by the UN General Assembly (UNGA) President. The first thematic session will convene from 8-9 May 2017, at the UN Office in Geneva, Switzerland, and will address 'Human rights of all migrants, social inclusion, cohesion and all forms of discrimination, including racism, xenophobia and intolerance'. A procedural note and Issue Brief for the session were made available on 13 April by the co-facilitators for intergovernmental consultations and negotiations on issues related to the compact, the intergovernmental conference, and their preparatory processes, Juan José Gómez Camacho, Permanent Representative of Mexico, and Jürg Lauber, Permanent Representative of Switzerland. The procedural note provides information on the format and tentative agenda of the meeting.
